SED concludes official visit to Shanghai (with photos)

     The Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, today (September 26) concluded his two-day official visit to Shanghai.

     Mr Ng first went to the Teaching Research Section of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, where he exchanged views with its Deputy Director, Ms Yu Lanying, and senior teachers on education reform and curriculum development in Hong Kong and Shanghai, and looked into the characteristics of the local curriculum.

     Mr Ng then visited the International Division of Shanghai High School, where he was guided to tour the school campus and briefed by the school management on the operation of the International Division.

     Founded in 1865, Shanghai High School established its International Division in 1993. To date, the International Division has enrolled around 2 900 students from over 60 different nations and regions, including more than 240 Hong Kong students.

     During the school visit, Mr Ng attended a gathering with some Hong Kong students to better understand their school life and gave them words of encouragement.

     He then went on to meet with representatives of Hong Kong businessmen, alumni of tertiary institutions and professionals currently in Shanghai to look into the opportunities and challenges they face.

     Mr Ng flew to Beijing in the evening. He will join the National Day Delegation from the Educational Sector of Hong Kong 2013 to participate in a variety of professional exchange activities in Beijing and Tianjin as well as National Day celebrations.
