Under Secretary appointed

      The Chief Executive's Office announced today (September 25) that the Appointment Committee has appointed an Under Secretary of the fourth term of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development has recommended Mr Godfrey Leung King-kwok to be his Under Secretary and his recommendation has been approved by the Appointment Committee. Mr Leung will assume office on October 16.

     Following are the biographical notes on the new appointee:

     Aged 49, Mr Leung holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Master of Science degree in Urban Planning from the University of Hong Kong.

     Before joining the Government, Mr Leung served as Director ¡V Workers Registration at the Construction Industry Council, heading the Workers Registration Secretariat, after the amalgamation of the Construction Workers Registration Authority (CWRA) and the Construction Industry Council in January 2013. He was the Chief Executive Officer of the CWRA from 2008 to 2012 before the merger.

     Prior to joining the CWRA, he worked with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) for 15 years. Throughout his tenure with the TDC, Mr Leung held various positions in different departments dealing with industry relations, overseas liaison, Mainland and overseas products and services promotion, and exhibitions. He was also posted to Shenzhen and New York to head the TDC offices there.
