Revised principal postage rates to take effect on October 1
***********************************************************

Hongkong Post today (September 24) reminded members of the general public that the revision of principal postage rates will take effect on October 1 (Tuesday). The updated version of the Postage Rates and Services brochure, which sets out the revised postage rates, is now available at all post offices and can be downloaded from the Hongkong Post website www.hongkongpost.hk.

It is the responsibility of the sender to ensure payment of sufficient postage for their postings. Underpaid items will be subject to delay and a surcharge. "For local mail items, the addressee will be asked to pay a surcharge, being double the amount of the shortfall in postage, upon receipt of the mail item. For outward mail items, underpayment of postage may result in a surcharge on the addressee upon receipt of the mail item and may lead to considerable delay," the Hongkong Post spokesman added.

Hongkong Post also reminded eligible local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that the Concessionary Scheme for SMEs on Postage Rebate, under which successfully registered local SMEs may claim a 5 per cent rebate for eligible postal transactions up to a limit of $150, will commence on October 1. For details and enquiries, please refer to the Hongkong Post website or call the dedicated hotline at 2921 6020.

As October 1 is a public holiday, all post offices will be closed on that day except the General Post Office and the Airport Post Office, which will be open from 9am to 5pm and 8am to 5pm respectively. Customers may refer to the Hongkong Post website or call the General Enquiry Hotline at 2921 2222 for details of the holiday arrangements.
