Registration invited for Symposium on Harbourfront Development
***************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Harbourfront Commission:

The Harbourfront Commission will bring together experts from world-renowned waterfront cities at the Symposium on Harbourfront Development, to share their views on opportunities and challenges in pursuing harbourfront enhancement and their experiences of implementing signature waterfront projects. Members of the public are welcome to attend the Symposium, to be held at the Conference Hall, Central Government Offices, Tamar on October 4 (Friday).

Under the theme "Unleashing the Potential of the Waterfront", the Symposium will be officiated by the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang. Other speakers include the Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, and overseas leaders and experts from Auckland, Singapore, Sydney and Vancouver. Two topical dialogue sessions, namely "Turning Challenges into Opportunities" and "From Holistic Planning to Sustainable Management", will illustrate how challenges can become catalysts and create opportunities for harbourfront improvement, and how the speakers have provided impetus to the planning, implementation, management and promotion of their respective world-famous waterfronts.

"We believe the Symposium will help raise the awareness of the benefits that harbourfront enhancement could bring to the city and facilitate the Government and Commission's work in pressing ahead with harbourfront improvement initiatives in Hong Kong. We would like to invite the community to join the discussion and contribute in the creation of an attractive, vibrant and sustainable Victoria Harbourfront for Hong Kong," the chairman of the Harbourfront Commission, Mr Nicholas Brooke, said today (September 12).

Prior registration is required for the Symposium. For more information, please visit the Symposium's website at: www.hfc.org.hk/en/symposium2013/home/index.html. Due to limited seats, all registrations will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. A confirmation email will be sent to each participant upon successful registration.
