Company and its director fined for wage offences and defaulting on payment of Labour Tribunal award offences

     Easyfil (Hong Kong) Company Limited and its director were sentenced at the Shatin Magistrates' Courts today (September 6) to a $43,000 fine and a $35,000 fine respectively under the Employment Ordinance. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.

     The company failed to pay wages, annual leave pay and wages in lieu of notice to five employees within seven days after the expiry of wage periods and termination of employment as required by the ordinance. The total amount involved was about $115,000. Furthermore, the company failed to pay the awarded sum of about $177,000 to five employees within 14 days of the date of the Labour Tribunal award.

     The director was convicted for his consent, connivance or neglect in the wage offences and defaulting on payment of Labour Tribunal award offences.
