The dance production "Dig-a-Dig", presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and choreographed by Angela Hang and Flora Hon, will be staged in November as part of the "Dance on Parallel Lines Series". In "Dig-a-Dig", the pair describe themselves as being like kimchi: At the beginning they were just simple, fresh cabbage. After being spiced up with red chili paste, put into vats and left to ferment for months, they became as spicy as kimchi. They then decided to peel away layer after layer of the kimchi cabbage leaves to show their innocent, vulnerable character, and eventually display the most beautiful side of women.
Angela Hang graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), majoring in contemporary dance. After graduation, she continued to devote herself to finessing her dance skills and paving the way for a tremendous dance career. She went to study various dance programmes in prestigious dance schools in the US, and countless hours of versatile and professional dance training equipped her with a strong foundation to develop her career in dance. As an experienced dancer, she has dedicated her life to sharing her passion, love and knowledge of dance with her students. She has taught in numerous institutions such as the HKAPA, City Contemporary Dance Centre, the Hong Kong Arts Centre, the Beijing Dance Academy and Minzu University of China, and is a guest lecturer in tertiary institutions. She also founded her own dance school and professional dance training programme to transform passionate young dancers into professional performers. Many of today's professional dancers have been influenced by Hang.
Flora Hon is currently a jazz funk and contemporary dance instructor, performer and choreographer. Hon graduated from the HKAPA, majoring in modern dance, and was awarded under the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund to further her studies and gain her Bachelor of Fine Arts in New York. In addition to completing her college studies in New York, Hon co-operated with many dance companies and choreographers there. On her return to Hong Kong after graduation, Hon formed the dance group Off the Ground with Kelvin Lam and Jo Leung. As a choreographer, she has participated in programmes including the Hong Kong Chinese New Year Parade 2008 and "The Door". As a versatile dancer, Hon has performed in concerts by Jacky Cheung and Leslie Cheung, the Opening Ceremony of the 15th Asian Games in Doha, and more.
"Dig-a-Dig" will be performed at 8pm on November 15 and 16 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on November 17 (Sunday) at the Theatre, Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre. Tickets priced at $200 and $160 are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis).
