Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, to the media after attending the CEPA Supplement X signing ceremony today (August 29):
Reporter: But is (James Shing) still a fit and able person? Does he still qualify to be the director of ATV?
Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: I think, according to the report of the Communications Authority, he is not a fit and proper person.
Reporter: Are you saying that even though if ATV appeals, James Shing will still be able to stay on after Monday, or does he have to go by Monday?
Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: Because this is not related to suspension of the licence. This is about Section 34. This is not about the suspension of licence. Even if he appeals in accordance with Section 34 of the Broadcasting Ordinance, he would still have to follow the directions of the Communications Authority. In other words, he cannot be an executive director as on Monday next week.
