Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) today (July 6) launched a series of spectacular summer events for the public to experience the magical world of animation and comics and to showcase the endless creativity of local talents.
Officiating at the opening ceremony, the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, said, "With the full support of the industry, Hong Kong Ani-Com Summer 2013 is presenting a set of programmes this summer with a view to arousing interest in comics and animation in the community. It is a major event for the comics and animation sector."
He said that the Government is committed to supporting the comics and animation industry to maximise its growth potential.
"Since 2009, CreateHK has sponsored $55 million for over 40 projects that are conducive to the development of the industry through the CreateSmart Initiative," he said.
The summer festival opened with the Comics and Animation Summer Carnival at Victoria Park today. The fun fair features a wide range of interactive activities, including game booths, animation screenings, comics painting demonstrations, a cosplay show and an animation and live music show.
The mascot design competition, another core programme of Hong Kong Ani-Com Summer 2013, also opened for the public to vote online today. A professional jury formed by representatives of the comics and animation industry, the education sector and the Government has shortlisted four entries in each of the four categories which correspond to the four supporting themes under the "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign - "Vibrant Hong Kong", "Hip Hong Kong", "Caring Hong Kong" and "Fresh Hong Kong" - and the public can vote for the winners online at www.createhk.gov.hk/mascot. Public voting will continue until July 26.
Other core programmes of Hong Kong Ani-Com Summer 2013 include:
* The Greatest Animated Commercials from Hong Kong;
* Opening Events of Comix Home Base;
* International Animation Festival 2013;
* Comics x Figures - Hong Kong Ani-Com Figure Show;
* Comix Home Base: "Tribute to Masters" Series (i) - "The Birth of a Hero - Exhibition of Ma Wing-Shing's Comics Works" and Master Class; and
* Closing Ceremony of Hong Kong Ani-Com Summer 2013 and Prize Presentation Ceremony of Mascot Design Competition at Kowloon Park.

Hong Kong Ani-Com Summer 2013 is presented by CreateHK, with Comix Home Base as Creative Partner and the Hong Kong Animation Filmmaker Society, the Hong Kong Arts Centre, the Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation and the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association as co-organisers.
Hong Kong Ani-Com Summer 2013 is one of the signature events under the theme of "Hip Hong Kong" in the "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign.
