International Arts Carnival opens with acrobatic dance extravaganza (with photos)
*******************************************************

The annual International Arts Carnival (IAC) opened today (July 5) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Officiating at tonight's opening ceremony was the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mrs Betty Fung.

Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the annual summer arts festival runs from today to August 11 and features over 400 events for family enjoyment. The IAC is one of the events under the "Vibrant Hong Kong" theme of the "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign.

The festival opened with the acrobatic dance production "Architecture in Motion" by Diavolo Dance Theater from the United States, with amazingly agile dancers flying through the air and challenging the physical limits of the body on a variety of gigantic installations. The performance is a visual extravaganza portraying seamless teamwork and astonishing acrobatic feats.

"Architecture in Motion" is being performed from today to July 7 (Sunday) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre. A limited number of tickets for box seats with a restricted view are available at the price of $140 at the box office of Hong Kong Cultural Centre from 10am on the day of performance. Each patron can purchase a maximum of two tickets per transaction on a first-come, first-served basis while stocks last.

Other performances in the festival line-up include puppetry and mime, acrobatics, magic theatre, music, dance, multimedia theatre, physical comedy productions and films.

Free programmes include the "BlendNew Youth Gala" for teenagers, the exciting "Beacon in the Dark" children's theatre show, and the summer fun party "Adventure in Animal Kingdom". Cultural tours, exhibitions and a demonstration performance are also part of the extension activities.

Tickets priced from $40 to $380 are available at URBTIX now. Half-price tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens, people with disabilities and their minders, and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. Booking discounts of up to 20 per cent are available for full-price performing arts/film programmes.
