Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, after attending the LegCo Public Works Subcommittee meeting on the proposed landfills extension today (June 26):

Reporter: Are you concerned that all the proposals may not get through the Finance Committee before the summer recess?

Secretary for the Environment: Our stance is that the landfill extensions are needed timely. We have tried our best endeavours so that the proposals could get through the procedures before summer.

Reporter: Do you have a timetable for the Tseung Kwan O landfill (extension)? When will you take it to the LegCo again?

Secretary for the Environment: The point is that the lawmakers and also society would like to see more concrete progress of those committed improvement measures. We would like to carry out those improvements as soon as possible, and at the same time, we would like to get the earliest time to come back to the LegCo about the Tseung Kwan O landfill extension.

Reporter: Are you going to put aside the Tseung Kwan O landfill (extension), or are you going to bring it back?

Secretary for the Environment: I have mentioned that it is temporary withholding of the proposal to the LegCo.
