Celebrate the summer with fun activities at HK Cultural Centre and Yau Ma Tei Theatre

     The Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold the "Arts Marathon for the Family" on July 7 (Sunday), celebrating the start of the summer holiday with fun-filled art activities including drama, music, hip hop and jazz dance, hand-painting, a drum circle and band performances. In addition, on July 14 (Sunday) Yau Ma Tei Theatre (YMTT) will hold "Fun Day" to celebrate the first anniversary of the theatre's reopening after revitalisation, and to offer the public a taste of Chinese arts and culture.

     Both events take place under the "Vibrant Hong Kong" theme of the "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign.

     "Arts Marathon for the Family" is free of charge and will start at noon on the Foyer Stage of the HKCC with a drama performance titled "Tin Shui Wai's Stories" produced by Theatre Noir, a venue partner of Yuen Long Theatre. The drama, which is based on true stories, will be performed by April Theatre from the Tin Shui Wai (North) Integrated Family Service Centre, International Social Service Hong Kong Branch. Other event programmes include live music by Accordion Troupe Hong Kong; musical excerpts from "Ballaw Man" by The Radiant Theatre, a venue partner of Sha Tin Town Hall; choral music by a group from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and hip hop and jazz dance performed by the Rico
Tsoi Dance Centre, which includes some breathtaking dance pieces.

     Activity stalls for public participation will be organised in Piazza Area B of the HKCC from 3pm to 6pm, with henna hand-painting by Meilleurami, a giant cartoon balloon model for photo-taking, balloon giveaways by Funny Balloon and origami by the Hong Kong Origami Society. The participatory activity "Drum Circle" from 2pm to 3.30pm and a live band performance "Band Connect" from 3.30pm to 6pm, presented by Tom Lee Music Foundation, will be held in Piazza Area C.

     Various performances will be held at the Theatre of YMTT during "Fun Day". Spring Opera Troupe will perform the Cantonese opera excerpts "Catching Sanlang Alive", "Romance and Hatred" and "Flooding Jinshan Temple" at 2.15pm. This is followed by a guzheng programme titled "Exploring Zheng's World" by the Connie Ng Guzheng Ensemble at 5pm. In addition, a puppet show will take place at 3pm in Function Room 2 of the Red Brick Building, YMTT. Titled "Puppet Fun" by Wong Fai Puppet and Shadow, the audience will get a taste of the string puppet performances "Zhong Kui Getting Drunk" and "Outlaws of the Marsh".

     Free tickets are required for admission to YMTT's "Fun Day" and will be distributed from 9am on June 28 (Friday). Tickets for "Cantonese Opera Excerpts" and "Puppet Fun" will be available for distribution at the foyer of YMTT. Tickets for "Exploring Zheng's World" will be distributed at the foyer of YMTT, enquiry counters of the HKCC and the Hong Kong City Hall.
