CEDB leads ICT delegation to Dalian
***********************************

A Hong Kong information and communications technology (ICT) delegation led by the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau departed today (June 18) for Dalian to participate in the 11th China International Software and Information Service Fair (CISIS) and promote ICT exchange and co-operation between Hong Kong and the Mainland.

The CISIS is organised by the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the People's Government of Liaoning Province. It is China's only national software fair approved by the State Council and the largest annual ICT event with international prominence. The fair will be held from June 20 to 23 in Dalian.

The Hong Kong delegation is led by the Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Miss Susie Ho, and the Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Daniel Lai. It comprises some 50 members, including representatives from the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), exhibitors at the CISIS' Hong Kong Pavilion and forum speakers, and representatives from the ICT industry.

The OGCIO and the Organising Committee of the CISIS will co-organise the Mainland and Hong Kong IT Forum on June 21. With the theme "Hong Kong - Your partner for Mainland and international markets", the forum will explore how ICT enterprises in the two places can join hands to go global and how overseas enterprises can participate in the process of informatisation in the Mainland. Miss Ho will deliver an opening address at the forum while Mr Lai will give a keynote speech.

The Hong Kong Pavilion set up at the CISIS will showcase the innovative products and services of 15 Hong Kong enterprises, including winners of Hong Kong ICT Awards and incubatees of Cyberport's incubation programmes. It will demonstrate Hong Kong's IT development and achievements and provide a platform for the Hong Kong ICT industry to foster collaboration and business opportunities with Mainland and overseas counterparts.

While in Dalian, the delegation will visit digital entertainment and software companies as well as incubatees at the Dalian High-tech Industrial Zone and Dalian Tiandi ICT Region to learn about their latest developments. Mr Lai will also take the opportunity to meet with officials of the Dalian Economic and Information Technology Committee to exchange views on issues of common interest and explore opportunities for co-operation.
