SEN continues visit in Taipei with delegation (with photos)
***********************************************************

The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, and the Hong Kong delegation continued their visit to Taipei today (June 7) to learn more about Taipei's waste management efforts on sustainable use of resources.

In the morning, Mr Wong attended a Hong Kong-Taipei inter-city forum as a keynote speaker at a panel discussion on the topic of "Greening the City, Protecting the Environment". He delivered a speech on Hong Kong's blueprint for sustainable use of resources and analysed with the forum participants the challenges and opportunities of waste management in Hong Kong.

During the forum, the Hong Kong delegation, with about 50 members from different sectors, exchanged views with people from environmental fields and relevant stakeholders in Taipei on the topics of resources recovery and related environmental issues. The delegation comprises representatives from the Advisory Council on the Environment, the Council for Sustainable Development (including its Support Group on Municipal Solid Waste Charging), the Food Wise Hong Kong Steering Committee (including its Sub-committees) and the Environmental Campaign Committee.

In the afternoon, Mr Wong and the delegation called on the Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration and shared experiences of implementing environmental policies in Hong Kong and Taipei.

Afterwards, the party toured Taipei 101 to see its waste separation and collection facilities. Taipei 101 requires waste separation and recycling with a view to not only enhancing the efficiency of sustainable use of resources but also alleviating the burden on waste management facilities.

Mr Wong and the delegation will conclude their visit and return to Hong Kong tonight.
