Hospital Authority welcomes approval of overseas doctors' applications
**********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Hospital Authority (HA) welcomed the decision of the Medical Council of Hong Kong (MCHK) today (June 5) to approve the applications for practice with limited registration of three overseas doctors who have applied to work in public hospitals under the HA.

According to the HA spokesman, the HA will proceed with the human resources procedures to arrange for the three doctors (one in Anaesthesia and two in Emergency Medicine) to report for duty as early as possible. They will work at the Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Department of Prince of Wales Hospital and the Accident and Emergency Departments of Tuen Mun Hospital and Yan Chai Hospital.

The HA advertised in late 2012 for the recruitment of non-local doctors under limited registration for the specialties under the most pressure, namely Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Intensive Care Unit, Medicine, Paediatrics and Psychiatry.

"Apart from the three applicants approved by the MCHK today, assessment of other applicants will continue to be processed for vetting by the HA Task Force on Limited Registration Scheme and consideration by the selection panels in the coming months.

"The HA would also continue with the local recruitment drives for full-time and part-time doctors in addition to the various measures to retain public doctors," the HA spokesman said, adding that about 300 doctors will be recruited in July to address the manpower shortage.
