Employer fined for wage offences and defaulting on payment of Labour Tribunal award

     An employer was fined $118,000 at Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (June 4) under the Employment Ordinance for wage offences and defaulting on payment of a sum awarded by the Labour Tribunal. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
  
     The employer failed to pay wages to six employees within seven days after the expiry of wage periods and termination of employment as required by the Ordinance. The total amount of wages involved was about $187,000. Furthermore, the employer failed to pay the awarded sum of about $168,000 to the six employees within 14 days after the specified date according to the Labour Tribunal.
