SEN to lead delegation to Taipei to exchange views on waste management

     The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, will lead a Hong Kong delegation this Thursday (June 6) for a two-day visit to Taipei to attend a Hong Kong-Taipei inter-city forum as well as to learn about Taipei's municipal solid waste management.

     The delegation comprises about 50 representatives from various environmental affairs-related committees, namely the Advisory Council on the Environment, the Council for Sustainable Development (including its Support Group on Municipal Solid Waste Charging), the Food Wise Hong Kong Steering Committee (including its Sub-committees) and the Environmental Campaign Committee.

     On the first day of the itinerary in Taipei, Mr Wong and the delegation will visit the Beitou Refuse Incinerator Plant and the community resource recycling facilities of Duen Hwa North Green Court. They will also join the welcome dinner hosted by the Taipei City Mayor, Mr Hau Lung-bin.

     On Friday morning (June 7), Mr Wong and the delegation will attend the Hong Kong-Taipei inter-city forum in Taipei. Mr Wong will be the guest speaker at the panel discussion on the topic of "Greening the City, Protecting the Environment". The group will also exchange views with people from environmental fields and relevant stakeholders in Taiwan on municipal solid waste management. In the afternoon, the delegation will call on the Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration and then tour Taipei 101 to see its waste separation and collection facilities.

     Mr Wong and the delegation will conclude the visit and return to Hong Kong on Friday night.
