HK-Taipei inter-city forum to be held in Taipei this Friday

     A Hong Kong-Taipei inter-city forum will be held in Taipei on June 7 (Friday) to further strengthen exchanges and interaction between Hong Kong and Taipei City.

     "Apart from serving as a platform for Hong Kong and Taipei to exchange views and share experiences in city management, we also hope that the forum could further enhance the co-operation and friendship between the two sides," a spokesman of the Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office (Taiwan) said today (June 3).

     At the forum, senior officials, experts and academics from Hong Kong and Taipei City will be invited to speak on environmental protection and heritage conservation and share relevant work experience in these two areas.

     The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, and the Deputy Mayor of Taipei, Dr Ting Ting-yu, will speak at the forum as officiating guests.

     In addition, the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, and the Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, will separately lead a delegation to attend the forum. They will also deliver keynote speeches on the management of solid waste and the revitalisation of historic buildings respectively.

     The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Raymond Tam, and the Chairperson of the Research, Development and Evaluation Commission of the Taipei City Government, Ms Yuan Nai-chuan, will give closing remarks at the forum.

     Other speakers will include the Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Protection of Taipei City, Mr Wu Sheng-chung; the Commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs of Taipei City, Dr Liu Wei-gong; Professor Jonathan Wong from the Department of Biology of the Hong Kong Baptist University; and Professor Ma Hsiao-kan from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Taiwan University.
