*******************************************************

In view of the enthusiastic response to the popular International Children's Film Carnival 2013 (ICFC), additional screenings of seven films will be held at the Hong Kong Film Archive. These are the thrilling "My African Adventure" (7.30pm on August 1); the latest installment in a popular series, "The Crocodiles 3: All for One" (2.15pm on July 6); the heart-warming "Stanley Ka Dabba" (11am on August 10); two award-winning movies under the Specials for Youth programme, "Cool Kids Don't Cry" (11am on July 27) and "Kauwboy" (11am on August 11); the memorable classic "The Sound of Music" (7.30pm on July 25) and the delightful "World Animation & Shorts 1" (11am on July 13).

Presented by the Film Programmes Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the popular ICFC is part of the annual International Arts Carnival (IAC). Fourteen feature films from Denmark, Spain, Finland, Germany, Japan, Latvia, the Czech Republic, India, the Netherlands, the UK, the US and Taiwan as well as 10 short films from around the world will be shown from July 5 to August 11 at the Cinema of the Hong Kong Film Archive and the Lecture Halls of the Hong Kong Space Museum and the Hong Kong Science Museum.

The Danish movie "My African Adventure" (2013) follows a family who win a trip to Africa to take care of endangered animals and end up with an adventure to rescue their neighbours across the beautiful African plains. "The Crocodiles 3: All for One" (2011) continues with the series' popular mix of tension, camaraderie and warmth as the Crocodiles plan to break into a prison to release a friend to help with an urgent liver transplant operation. From India, "Stanley Ka Dabba¡¨ (2011) features a talented 8-year-old boy who never takes a lunch box to school but whose classmates are always willing to share their food with him. This works well until a greedy teacher who likes to steal a bite from his students becomes jealous and forbids the boy to enter school unless he brings his own lunch box. The young star's brilliant performance won Best Child Actor at India's National Film Awards 2012.

"Cool Kids Don't Cry" (2012) revolves around the optimistic Akkie, who loves soccer but falls ill with leukaemia before a much awaited tournament. She battles her disease like a true champion yet she is scared of her own romantic feelings. The film has won many audience awards at children's film festivals worldwide. In another box office hit, "Kauwboy" (2012), the lonely Jojo's only consolation is his adoption of a tiny jackdaw, which helps him develop his inner strength. But unfortunately his volatile father wants to get rid of the little bird. The director's artistic portrayal of the boy's inner world has won plaudits at various film festivals.

The ever popular "The Sound of Music" (1965), which won five Oscars, was inspired by the real story of Maria, who is sent to Colonel von Trapp's family as a tutor, and with song and dance she transforms the life of the family. Julie Andrews' wonderful voice and the backdrop of beautiful Salzburg have made the film a long-standing favourite. Film critic Ka Ming will introduce an appreciation of musicals for children.

In addition, an extra screening will be arranged of "World Animation & Shorts 1", which features five short films for young children including the story of a Latvian bear in "Bear is Coming!" (2008); the funny "Frog, Rabbit and the Red Telephone" (2011); the rescue story "Tiger" (2010); the simple but interesting "Trucks and Meatballs" (2011); and the endearing stories of eight children in "Who?" (2010). Kwan Chung-yeung, a professional director in children's drama for over 10 years, will host interactive sessions in Cantonese.

Live Cantonese interpretation and English subtitles are available for "My African Adventure". Most films have Chinese and English subtitles.
