Judicial appointments

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Judiciary today (May 27) announced the appointment of Mr Roy Yu Mun-kee and Mr Pang Chung-ping as District Judges. The appointments will take effect from May 28, 2013.

     The appointments have been made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.

     Further judicial appointments will be announced in due course.

     The biographical notes of the appointees are as follows:
   
Mr Roy Yu Mun-kee

     Mr Yu was born in Hong Kong in 1956. He obtained LL.B. and P.C.LL. from the University of Hong Kong in 1979 and 1980 respectively. He was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1982 and in England and Wales in 1987. He was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in the Australian Capital Territory in 1991 and as an advocate and solicitor in the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1995. He became a Mediator accredited by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution in 2009. He was in private practice from 1982 until he was appointed as Permanent Magistrate in 1997.

Mr Pang Chung-ping

     Mr Pang was born in Hong Kong in 1960. He obtained LL.B. from the University of London in 1989. He passed the Bar Finals Examination of the Council of Legal Education in the United Kingdom in 1990. He further acquired LL.M. in Maritime Law from the University of London in 2006. He was called to the Bar in England and Wales in 1990 and in Hong Kong in 1991. He joined the then Legal Department as Court Prosecutor from 1984 to 1990. He was in private practice from 1991 until he was appointed as Permanent Magistrate in 1997.
