Members of the public can book the cremation service of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) at its six crematoria starting June 1 on its webpage (www.fehd.gov.hk).
An FEHD spokesman said today (May 26), "To tie in with the developments in society and to further enhance its cremation service, the FEHD will launch online booking of cremation sessions next month.
"Applicants who wish to avail themselves of the service should register in advance with the department's Hong Kong or Kowloon Cremation Booking Offices and submit completed application forms and the originals of relevant documents (for example, the Certificate of Registration of Death, Cremation Permit, etc) for verification."
An applicant who has successfully registered will be given a token which will be used to book online through the department's website an available cremation session within 15 days from the online application day. Immediately after a cremation session has been secured, payment by credit card of the fees involved will have to be made. In addition to credit cards, payment through the Payment by Phone Service will be accepted shortly.
The spokesman added, "While implementing the scheme, the arrangement of giving out a maximum of five chits to each applicant or proxy who can provide the relevant documents will be maintained. Other arrangements and conditions for booking cremation sessions will also remain unchanged. These include provision of cremation sessions within 15 days after the application day and provision of extra sessions to meet the performance pledge."
The department will accept applications at the Cremation Booking Offices and online applications in parallel from 9.15am to 12.30pm from Monday to Saturday and from 2pm to 4.30pm from Monday to Friday (except public holidays).
