Police response to press enquiries on persons wanted by Police
********************************************************

In response to press enquiries on whether a person is wanted by Police, a Police spokesman made the following statement today (May 14):

"Law-abiding citizens should not worry about being wanted by Police. Police only consider putting suspects onto the wanted persons list when, following investigation, Police have reasons to believe that they have committed certain crimes or will be charged with certain offences and arrests of them have not been forthcoming. Generally speaking, Police will take the initiative to contact the suspects by various means.

When any person claims to be in connection with a case and surrenders to Police, we will make a record and conduct investigation. Police appeal to the public not to abuse the service of the report room to avoid causing delay to people who genuinely need to make reports or seek urgent assistance from Police. We will handle reports and requests for assistance from the public in order of importance and urgency.

Police emphasise that anyone who intentionally abuses the service of report room or disrupt its operation may have committed the criminal offences of "causing wasteful employment of police" or "obstructing police officers in the due execution of their duties".
