Hong Kong Museum of History to host Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra ensemble tomorrow
******************************************************

To tie in with the International Museum Day 2013, Hong Kong (IMD 2013 HK), presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the Hong Kong Museum of History will stage "Heart Notes Hong Kong - Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra Ensemble" in a gallery of its permanent exhibition "The Hong Kong Story" tomorrow (May 15) from 11.30am to 12.30pm.

This is the first time the Hong Kong Museum of History is holding a concert in its galleries. The concert will be held in the fifth gallery of "The Hong Kong Story", "The Opium Wars and the Cession of Hong Kong". Through the series of classic Cantonese pop songs and Guangdong music played by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra ensemble, the museum hopes to rekindle the Hong Kong memories of its visitors with familiar melodies, and to give visitors a new experience in visiting a history museum.

As the LCSD's museums are open for free on Wednesdays, visitors going to the Hong Kong Museum of History tomorrow will enjoy free admission to both its exhibition and the concert. The capacity of the fifth gallery of "The Hong Kong Story" is around 100 people, and entry is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Apart from the concert, the IMD 2013 HK will offer a series of programmes and activities for public participation. On Saturday and Sunday (May 18 and 19), all museums under the LCSD and other local cultural institutes taking part in the event will organise open days with free admission.

Additionally, the organiser of IMD 2013 HK has introduced a smartphone game, "iButterfly", to encourage public participation in the event. After installing this application, users will be able to get the latest news of IMD 2013 HK upon capturing "i-butterflies" with their smartphones from now until May 19. In addition, they can redeem a specially designed souvenir on the museum open days, when visiting the participating museums or cultural institutes, by gathering the virtual "Museum Butterflies" and the "IMD Butterflies".

Visitors can also redeem a souvenir with a museum guide map that has been stamped with the stamp of any of the participating museums and cultural institutes. The museum guide map can be obtained from all participating museums and institutes on the museum open days.
