Hospital Authority submits three applications for Limited Registration to Medical Council
**********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Hospital Authority (HA) today (May 14) submitted the applications of three non-local doctors for Limited Registration to serve in public hospitals to the Medical Council of Hong Kong (MCHK).

"Facing acute doctor manpower and workload issues in certain clinical units, the recruitment of non-local doctors has been supported by the respective Central Co-ordinating Committees and endorsed by the HA Task Force on Limited Registration Scheme," the HA spokesman said.

The HA advertised in late 2012 for the recruitment of non-local doctors under Limited Registration for the specialties under the most pressure, namely Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Intensive Care Unit, Medicine, Paediatrics and Psychiatry.

Interviews were arranged earlier for potentially eligible applicants. Three applicants have been chosen by the selection panels as suitable for the posts in the Anaesthesia (one doctor) and Accident and Emergency (two doctors) Departments.

The HA will continue to assess the rest of the applications for vetting by the Task Force on Limited Registration Scheme and consideration by the selection panels in the coming months.

The spokesman remarked that the HA looks forward to the favourable consideration of the MCHK for the applications, alongside a series of measures to attract fully registered local doctors and retain public doctors who have worked longer hours and more frequent call duties amid the current manpower shortfall.
