The Assistant Director of Social Welfare (Family and Child Welfare), Mr Fung Man-chung, said today (May 10) that the Social Welfare Department (SWD) and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) will join together again this year to produce a 10-episode docudrama, titled "The Moment 2", to promote harmonious family life, love and care among family members as well as to encourage members of the public to seek early assistance when necessary.
Their award-winning 2010 co-production "The Moment 1" was well-received by the public. It also won international awards, including the Gold Plaque Award at the Chicago International TV Festival.
Mr Fung said the SWD has been delivering child-centred, family-focused and community-based services and promoting the theme of "Strengthening Families and Combating Violence" through family education, publicity programmes and community participation. In 2012, more than 1 800 different types of district promotional activities were arranged, involving about 136 000 participants.
The SWD provides a series of support and professional services to those who are facing personal or family crises, or to help them get through difficult times. In 2013-14, the SWD has made an estimated provision of over $2.2 billion for family and child welfare services, including support for domestic violence victims and families in need, an increase of 7.7 per cent from that of 2012-13.
To encourage the public to reflect on the storylines of the docudrama, the SWD is organising a photo contest in parallel. The department hopes to get across the message that, like photography, an incident can be viewed from various angles and handled in different ways.
