International Arts Carnival brings summer fun to all (with photos)

     This summer, the International Arts Carnival (IAC) will bring a splendid array of inspirational and enjoyable programmes to all. Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the annual summer arts festival will run from July 5 to August 11 and will feature more than 400 events for family entertainment. The IAC is one of the events under the "Vibrant Hong Kong" theme of the "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign.

     In this year's carnival, performing groups from the US, Peru, the Mainland, the UK, Italy, Norway and Korea, along with local groups, will take part in acrobatic dance, puppetry and mime, acrobatics, magic theatre, music, dance, multimedia theatre and physical comedy productions, and films will also be screened.

     Opening the festival will be the acrobatic dance production "Architecture in Motion" by Diavolo Dance Theater from the US, featuring amazingly agile dancers leaping and flying through the air and challenging the physical limits of the body on a variety of gigantic installations. The performance is a visual extravaganza portraying seamless teamwork and astonishing feats that cannot be missed.

     Other attractive programmes will include:
* Puppetry and mime in "Body Rhapsody" by Teatro Hugo & Ines (Peru)
* Multimedia dance theatre in "Shadowland" by Pilobolus Dance Theatre (US)
* Acrobatics in "Impression of Hua Mulan" by Hebei Acrobatic Troupe
* Multimedia interactive theatre in "Legend of the Ocean: La La & the Litter Castle" by Theatre Ronin
* The musical "Hong Kong Is Our Eco Home" by Fong Fong Projet d'Art
* Music theatre in "BabyO and SensoryO" by Scottish Opera (UK)
* Magic theatre in "MAN2BOY" by Harry Wong
* Physical comedy in "Da Capo! - Quasi Concert" by the Konk Brothers (Italy/Norway)
* The concert "McDull - Sentimental Little Stories" by the Hong Kong Sinfonietta
* "Hong Kong Youth Music Camp Concerts 2013" by the Music Office
* International Children's Film Carnival 2013 by the Film Programmes Office

     This year's "New Generation Series" will include the drama production "Who Are You? Who Am I?" by TrinityTheatre, on the identities of teenagers; the exuberant street dance show "B-Boying Gala Show - One Dream" by Last For One from Korea; and the dynamic a cappella concert "Do You Sing? Dare to Sing!" by Orange A Cappella.

     Free programmes will include the "BlendNew Youth Gala" for teenagers, the exciting "Beacon in the Dark" children's theatre show, and the summer fun party "Adventure in Animal Kingdom". Cultural tours, exhibitions and demonstration performances are also part of the extension activities.

     Tickets priced from $40 to $380 are available at URBTIX from tomorrow (May 10) onwards. Half-price tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens, people with disabilities and their minders, and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. Booking discounts of up to 20 per cent are available for full-price performing arts/film programmes.
