Unlocking the soybean dream

     After seeing the huge amount of money the Mainland was spending to import soybeans which originated in China, Professor of the School of Life Sciences, Faculty of Science of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Lam Hon-ming, wants to bring soybean research and production to a more advanced level in the Mainland.

     Professor Lam named his research "Soybean Homecoming". Through genomic analysis and cross-breeding, he hopes to produce a new soybean line tolerant to adverse environments, to ensure maximum productivity.

     The Hong Kong Science Museum's Science News Corner is holding an exhibition showing Professor Lam's work, and soybean products like food, cosmetics, candles, ink and clothes.

     His story is being featured in an article on the news.gov.hk website today (May 5) in both text and video format.
