FEHD orders Yuen Long light refreshment restaurant to suspend business for two weeks
******************************************************

The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a light refreshment restaurant in Yuen Long to suspend business for 14 days.

The operator repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation by illegally extending the food business area and allowing staff to prepare food in open space.

The restaurant, located at shop No. 20 on the ground floor of Kuen Yick Building at No. 18 Chun Yin Square, was ordered to suspend business from today (May 5) to May 18.

"Between July 2011 and last July, a total of four convictions on the breaches were recorded against the food establishment," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said.

"A total fine of $6,000 was levied by the court and 45 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in seven-day and 14-day business suspensions running consecutively," the spokesman said.

The licensee lodged an appeal to the Licensing Appeals Board and the Municipal Services Appeals Board, which decided to suspend the licence for 14 days.

The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the Food Business Regulation or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.

Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign indicating that the premises have been licensed at a conspicuous place near the main entrance. A list of licensed food premises is also available on the FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/licence-type.html).
