Company and its director fined for wage offences and defaulting on payment of Labour Tribunal award offences

     Fai Tak Engineering Company Limited and its director were sentenced at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (April 29) to a $67,100 fine and a $31,000 fine respectively under the Employment Ordinance. The company and its director were also ordered to clear the sum awarded by the Labour Tribunal via the court.

     The company failed to pay wages, annual leave pay and wages in lieu of notice to four employees within seven days after the expiry of wage periods and termination of employment as required by the ordinance. The total amount involved was about $154,000. Furthermore, the company failed to pay the awarded sum of about $244,000 to four employees within 14 days of the date of the Labour Tribunal award.

     The director was convicted for his consent, connivance or neglect in defaulting on payment of Labour Tribunal award offences.
