Research Grants Council public lecture on obesity to be held on Saturday

The following is issued on behalf of the University Grants Committee:

     The Research Grants Council (RGC) will present the first public lecture for this year on Saturday (April 6) at the Hong Kong Science Museum on the theme of "Obesity".

     The lecture is co-organised with the Hong Kong Science Museum. The RGC has invited Professor Karen Lam of the Department of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong and Professor Stephen Wong of the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education at the Chinese University of Hong Kong to share their research findings and knowledge with the public. Details are as follows:

Time: 2.30pm to 4.30pm
Venue: Lecture Hall, Hong Kong Science Museum
Language: Cantonese
Free admission on a first-come first-served basis.

     Professor Lam will give a talk entitled "Fighting the Obesity Epidemic: What's on the Horizon in 2013?". The talk will cover the findings of the Hong Kong Cardiovascular Risk Factor Prevalence Study and treatments for obesity.

     Professor Wong will deliver a lecture entitled "Childhood Obesity and Social-physical Environment". The lecture will provide an overview of social-environmental effects in children's physical activity and explore new measures to prevent childhood obesity.
 
     Since 2009, leading scholars in their respective fields have been invited to deliver public lectures organised by the RGC. These lectures aim at arousing the public's interest in local research developments.
