Young musicians from 14 music groups to showcase all-time favourites from East and West

     Organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, young musicians from 14 music groups including bands, orchestras and a choir will jointly perform a selection of all-time favourites from East and West at four concerts to be held in April and June.

     The first concert, to be performed by the New Territories Youth Symphonic Band, Kowloon Youth Symphonic Band, Music Office Children's Choir and Music Office Brass Ensemble will be held at 8pm on April 6 (Saturday) at the Auditorium, Tuen Mun Town Hall. Under the batons of conductors Yeung Tak-man, Desmond Tse, May Ho, Yau Man-ching, Lee Sing-wan and Dr Ho Tun-man, the musicians will showcase a spectacular rendition of Chinese and Western music including Sweeney's "Lament and Tribal Dances", Fields and Coleman's "Rhythm of Life" arranged by Emerson and Holst's "First Suite in E-flat for Military Band".

     The second concert, which includes the New Territories Youth Strings, Kowloon Youth Strings, Island Youth Strings and Hong Kong Youth Strings, will be held at 3pm on April 7 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of Yuen Long Theatre. An array of string works will be showcased under the batons of conductors Leung Yi-hin, Tsang Yin-yu, Chan Tat-kwong, Cheung Ching-yi, Yim Sze-hang, Li Sai-hong and Lui Wing-ka, including "Hungarian Rhapsody No.2" by Liszt and arranged by Hoffman, Mendelssohn's "Sinfonia No.2 in D major", scenes from "Swan Lake, 3rd Movement" by Tchaikovsky and arranged by Hoffman, and Elgar's "Serenade for Strings".

     Tickets priced at $60, $40 and $20 for the first two concerts are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions are available for full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 and above, people with disabilities and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. Credit card bookings can be made at 2111 5999, and Internet bookings can be made at www.urbtix.hk.

     The remaining two joint concerts will be held on June 1 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall and on June 8 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets will be available one month before the concert dates.
