The Government today (March 15) announced that the Chief Executive had appointed Mr Nicky Lo Kar-chun as chairman, and Mr Andrew Fung Hau-chung as member of the Independent Commission on Remuneration for Members of the Executive Council and the Legislature, and Officials under the Political Appointment System of the HKSAR (Independent Commission). The appointments will run from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2016.
First appointed as member to the Independent Commission in 2006, Mr Lo will take over the chairmanship from Mr Vincent Cheng Hoi-chuen, who will retire at the end of his term on March 31. Mr Lo was formerly chairman of the Standing Commission on Civil Service Salaries and Conditions of Service, alternate chairman of the Pay Trend Survey Committee and a member of both the Standing Committee on Directorate Salaries and Conditions of Service and the Standing Committee on Disciplined Services Salaries and Conditions of Service. His rich business sector experience, coupled with his experience on matters concerning public service salaries and conditions of service, provide relevant insight to the work of the Independent Commission.
"We would like to thank the outgoing chairman, Mr Vincent Cheng, for his able leadership and invaluable contribution to the work of the Independent Commission over the years," the spokesman said.
The Independent Commission advises the Government on matters relating to the systems of remuneration for Members of the Executive Council and the Legislative Council, as well as for Officials under the Political Appointment System. Other members of the Independent Commission are Mrs Betty Yuen So Siu-mai, Professor Chan Yuk-shee, Ms Kelly Chan Yuen-sau and Mrs Margaret Leung Ko May-yee.
