CE to visit Beijing and Tianjin

     The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, will visit Beijing and Tianjin from March 16 to 20.

     At the invitation of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the Chief Executive will leave for Beijing in the afternoon of March 16 to attend the closing ceremony of the first session of the 12th National People's Congress in Beijing on March 17. While in Beijing, the Chief Executive will also pay visits to central ministries. The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan; the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Raymond Tam; and the Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, will accompany him on respective visits.

     Mr Leung, Mr Tam and Mr Lai will depart for Tianjin on March 19 for a one-day visit. They will call on major leaders of the Tianjin Municipal Government and meet Hong Kong people who study, work and do business there to keep abreast of their living conditions. He will also visit a Hong Kong enterprise, Tianjin Planning Exhibition Hall and Tianjin Cultural Center.

     Also accompanying Mr Leung on the visit will be the Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Mr Edward Yau; the Director of Information Services, Mr Michael Wong; the Private Secretary to the Chief Executive, Mr Carlson Chan; the Senior Special Assistant to the Chief Executive, Mr Chan Kin-ping; and the Assistant Director (Media), Mr Nick Au Yeung.

     Mr Leung will return to Hong Kong in the evening of March 20. During his absence, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, will be acting Chief Executive.
