************************************************************

The Labour Department, the North District Council and the Hong Kong Youth Power Association will co-organise the North District Recruitment and Training Expo 2013 at Po Wing Road Sports Centre in Sheung Shui on January 11.

A total of 64 organisations will participate in the expo. Fifty-eight organisations will set up counters and conduct on-the-spot recruitment on the event day. Six training and social services organisations will provide information on training courses and offer job counselling services to participants respectively. Thematic talks are scheduled for the afternoon, providing tips on job interview skills and other useful information to participants.

These recruiting organisations mainly come from the retail, catering and property management industries. About 4,800 vacancies are offered, covering a wide variety of positions such as engineer, beauty consultant, driver, forklift truck driver, gardener, storekeeper, technician, chef, waiter/waitress, shop assistant, cashier, security guard and cleaner, etc. Job seekers who want to know more about the vacancies may visit the department's Interactive Employment Service website (www.jobs.gov.hk).

About 79 per cent of the vacancies are full-time jobs. The majority of them offer monthly salaries ranging from $6,000 to $11,000. Over 98 per cent of these vacancies require a Secondary Six education level or below. Around 56 per cent are open to job seekers without relevant experience.

Job seekers can submit applications on the spot and may be selected for on-site interviews. The Labour Department will also conduct on-the-spot registration for job seekers.

The expo will be held from 11am to 5.30pm at Po Wing Road Sports Centre, 19 Pak Wo Road, Sheung Shui (MTR Sheung Shui Station Exit B1). Admission is free.
