2013 Establishment Survey on Manpower and Job Skills Requirements
*****************************************************

The Census and Statistics Department announced today (January 3) the commencement of the 2013 Establishment Survey on Manpower and Job Skills Requirements.

The survey aims to collect employers' views on their manpower and job skills requirements over the medium term. The information collected will provide the Government with crucial information for programme planning and policy formulation.

About 7 000 establishments in various economic sectors will be enumerated in the survey. A questionnaire has been sent to these establishments on January 2. The establishments are requested to complete the questionnaire and return it to the Census and Statistics Department on or before January 18.

Information to be sought in the survey includes general information on the establishment, and their manpower and job skills requirements for the coming several years.

The survey is conducted under Part IIIA of the Census and Statistics Ordinance (Chapter 316). It is a voluntary statistical survey notified in the Government Notice No. 8139 in the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Gazette of December 21, 2012. The said ordinance stipulates that all collected information which may enable identification of individual companies should be kept in strict confidence and not be released to any unauthorised parties.

The Commissioner for Census and Statistics, Mrs Lily Ou-yang, appealed to the management of all selected establishments to fulfill their social responsibilities by completing the questionnaire themselves and returning it promptly to the Census and Statistics Department, as their opinions are vital to the survey.

If necessary, officers of the Census and Statistics Department will visit individual establishments and assist them in completing the questionnaire. These officers will each carry an Enumerator Identity Card and a certificate for conducting the survey, which are available for inspection.

Enquiries regarding the survey may be directed to the Economic Surveys Branch of the Census and Statistics Department (telephone: 2417 6419 or e-mail: 2013mps@censtatd.gov.hk).
