Appointments made to Appeal Board on Public Meetings and Processions

     The Government announced today (December 14) the re-appointment of Mr Anthony Chow Wing-kin as a Deputy Chairperson and Ms Betty Chan Ka-wai as a member of the Appeal Board on Public Meetings and Processions.

     The above appointments, made by the Chief Executive under section 43(3) of the Public Order Ordinance (Cap 245), were gazetted today. The new term of office of Mr Chow and Ms Chan will be two years, from December 22, 2012 to December 21, 2014.

     The Appeal Board comprises a Chairperson, two Deputy Chairpersons and 13 members, all of whom are not public officers. The Appeal Board is responsible for considering appeals against a prohibition of a public meeting, an objection to a public procession, or the conditions imposed or amended on a public meeting or public procession by the Commissioner of Police under sections 9, 14, 11 or 15 of the Public Order Ordinance (Cap 245). The Appeal Board is empowered to confirm, reverse or vary the decision being appealed against.
