Cantonese opera virtuosi to perform selected repertoire in honour of Yam Kim-fai

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Cantonese Opera Legend Yam Kim Fai ¡V Repertoire Select" will be staged in January next year. The programme will feature local Cantonese opera virtuosi performing a selection of Yam's masterpieces.

     Yam Kim-fai, who was born on December 29, 1912, continues to enjoy a highly prominent position in the history of Cantonese opera. She appeared in more than 400 Cantonese opera productions and more than 300 Cantonese films, and many of her works are regarded as classics. She was ¡V and still is - recognised as a talented all-round artist whose voice, handsome looks and memorable stage persona were unique. She enjoyed a following of thousands of opera fans, and was esteemed as "a bubbly valentine" by her adoring audience. Devoted to the art of Cantonese opera Yam was also eager to nurture new generations of artists, as exemplified by her establishment of the Chor Fung Ming Cantonese Opera Troupe and her efforts in grooming and mentoring the young artists.

     The programme brings together some of the best-known names in Cantonese opera, including Wan Fei-yin, Yau Sing-po, Yuen Siu-fai, Ng Chin-fung, Ng Mei-ying, Lee Lung, Nam Fung, Mui Suet-see, Koi-ming fai and Lung Koon-tin, for a selected showcase of Yam's repertoire.

     The performances will start at 7.30pm. Details are as follows:

"Sweet Dew on a Beautiful Flower" by Lung Koon-tin and Nam Fung

January 29 (Tuesday) Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall
"Princess Cheung Ping" by Lee Lung and Mui Suet-see

January 30 (Wednesday) Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall
"The Reincarnation of a Beauty" by Lee Lung and Mui Suet-see

February 1 (Friday) Theatre, Ko Shan Theatre
"A Buddhist Recluse for Fourteen Years" by Wan Fei-yin, Ng Chin-fung, Nam Fung and Lung Koon-tin

     Tickets priced ranging from $100 to $380 are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by telephone credit card booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
