Housing Authority sets rents for seven new estates
**************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Housing Authority:

Rents for 12 734 flats in 17 non-standard blocks of the Housing Authority (HA)'s seven new public rental housing (PRH) estates to be completed in the first half of next year will be set at the best rent level of their respective districts as adjusted in September this year.

The best rent at $64.4 per square metre per month for flats in the urban district will apply to the 1 390 flats at Cheung Sha Wan Estate, the 5 204 flats at Kai Ching Estate and the 1 488 flats at Wing Cheong Estate.

The best rent at $62.2 per square metre per month for flats in Shatin and Kwai Chung districts will apply to 1 216 flats at Mei Tin Estate, 1 607 flats at Fung Wo Estate and 839 flats at Shek Lei (II) Estate.

The best rent at $42.9 per square metre per month for flats in Tuen Mun district will apply to the 990 flats at Lung Yat Estate.

"Under this rent fixing exercise, over 87 per cent of the flats are set at a rent level below $2 000 per month," a spokesman for the HA said today (November 23), adding that PRH rents, which are inclusive of rates, management and maintenance costs, are heavily subsidised.

"PRH applicants who are allocated new flats but cannot afford the rents may request for refurbished flats at lower rents. They can also apply for assistance under the Rent Assistance Scheme where applicable," the spokesman added.
