Hong Kong Police strengthen co-operation with German Federal Police

     After attending the 81st Interpol General Assembly in Rome, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Tsang Wai-hung, continued his trip to Germany.

     On November 7, Mr Tsang had a meeting with senior officials of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior and paid a courtesy call on Mr Klaus-Dieter Fritsche, State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior in Berlin.

     Mr Tsang signed a Joint Understanding on ˇĄPreventing and Combating International Crime and Developing Police Cooperationˇ¦ with the German Federal Criminal Police Office earlier this year. The current visit allowed Mr Tsang an opportunity to further build on the foundation of the last meeting, cementing in place closer cooperation between the Hong Kong Police and the law enforcement agencies of Germany.

     During the meeting with Mr Fritsche, both sides exchanged views on common challenges and agreed on enhanced cooperation in cyber security, counter-terrorism, critical infrastructure, aviation and maritime security.

     Mr Fritsche also mentioned that they had recently formulated a new cyber security strategy and they were looking forward to an even closer working partnership with the Forceˇ¦s Cyber Security Centre to be established in the near future.

     In addition, both sides were looking forward to the establishment of direct contact points between Hong Kongˇ¦s Critical Infrastructure Security Coordination Centre and the German counterparts.

     Mr Tsang, accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Liaison Bureau, Mr Wong Ying-wai, will be returning to Hong Kong tomorrow (November 9).
