CS appoints Steering Committee on Population Policy
***************************************************

     The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, today (November 7) appointed 11 non-official members to the Steering Committee on Population Policy (the Steering Committee) for a term of two years, from December 1, 2012 to November 30, 2014.

     Established in 2007, the Steering Committee, chaired by the Chief Secretary for Administration, has formerly comprised only officials of the relevant bureaux and departments.      The terms of reference of the Steering Committee are to:

(1) identify the main social and economic challenges to Hong Kong and policy issues which require further study having regard to the changes to the local population profile in the next 30 years;

(2) recommend strategies and practical measures for pursuing the objectives of Hong Kong's population policy and advise on the priority of these measures; and
