Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, on energy, the fuel mix and the food waste recovery project after attending an engagement session with representatives of academia, experts and green groups on energy and the fuel mix this afternoon (October 31):

Secretary for the Environment: Today we have had a very good meeting with nearly a hundred people, experts from different sectors, including green groups and academia, to talk about the fuel mix and energy policy, covering two key aspects: one is supply side about the fuel mix in future, the second is the demand side about energy conservation.

Today we also announced the second stage sponsoring for the food waste recovery in housing estates. In the first phase, we have sponsored about 11 estates. So far, the response has been very positive. In order to cope with the positive response, we launched the second phase of the sponsoring scheme. Given the funding availability, we will sponsor about 45 more estates in the future.

Reporter: What are the major concerns and discussion at the meeting? Is there any discussion on the tariff increase?

Secretary for the Environment: In the meeting, there are various questions raised. But the key question is about what should be the most appropriate process that can get the consensus within Hong Kong about this complex issue.
