     The Government announced today (October 31) that Miss Mary Chow Shuk-ching, former Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union, will succeed Ms Olivia Nip Sai-lan as Land Registrar on November 12, 2012.

     Commenting on the appointment, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Paul Tang, said, "Miss Chow is a seasoned Administrative Officer with rich experience in public administration, good leadership and management skills. I have every confidence that she will continue to serve the community with professionalism and dedication in her new capacity."  

     A brief biographical note on Miss Chow is as follows:

     Aged 50.  Miss Chow joined the Administrative Service in August 1984 and rose to her present rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade B1 in April 2007.

     Miss Chow has served in various bureaux and departments including the Social Welfare Department, the former Medical and Health Department, the former City and New Territories Administration, the Central Policy Unit, the former Planning, Environment and Lands Branch, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels and the former Economic Services Bureau (later retitled Economic Development and Labour Bureau). She was Deputy Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology (Commerce and Industry) from April 2003 to August 2006 and Deputy Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands (Housing) (later retitled Deputy Secretary for Transport and Housing (Housing) /Deputy Director of Housing) from August 2006 to October 2008. She was Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Communities (later retitled Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union) from October 2008 to October 2012.
