Following the roll-out of the "My Culture" mobile application for iPhone and Android smartphone users in early September, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has launched the iPad version today (October 30) to enable more mobile device users to obtain an unending stream of first-hand cultural information.
A spokesman for the LCSD said, "The iPad version provides another mobile platform with a larger screen for richer programme content and clearer images for greater visual impact. The iPad version not only enhances readability in all orientations, but also brings a new user experience featuring different image manoeuvring and layout arrangements."
Since the launch of the "My Culture" app, close to 10,000 downloads have been recorded, the spokesman said, adding that smartphone users have offered encouraging remarks, such as "excellent and clear interface", "nice design and speedy", "easy and convenient to use", "a good app for searching cultural activities" and more.
Similar to the iPhone and Android versions, the iPad version covers an array of cultural events organised solely or jointly by the LCSD, including cultural presentations, Venue Partnership Scheme events, film programmes and special exhibitions organised by the museums.
Users are able to browse cultural events that are categorised under music, dance, Chinese opera, theatre, multi-arts, family entertainment, film and special exhibitions. They can also conduct a quick programme search by category, venue, date or keywords with a few taps of the screen.
What is the difference between a Western opera and a musical? Why do people say "Break a leg" to performers before they go on stage? Answers to these can be found in the categorised blurbs that are easily obtainable by tapping the "Trivia" button to learn some basic knowledge about performing arts and other fields.
To facilitate event scheduling, users can bookmark their favourite events and revisit them easily through "My Events" or tap the "Calendar" button to add and synchronise the event details to their mobile device calendar. They can also share information on their favourite events with friends easily using popular social networks like Facebook and Twitter.
Users of the iPad version can also gain access to the URBTIX online ticketing system under the "Tickets" function.
The app's information is updated at four regular intervals during the day. Available in English, traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese, the iPad version of the app can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store or at the following link: cima.lcsd.gov.hk/myculture .
