Over 200 orchestras and bands from primary and secondary schools will participate in the "2012 Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows" from November 15 to December 15.

Organised annually by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows aims to provide a music exchange opportunity for young local musicians and contests for symphony orchestras, string orchestras, Chinese orchestras and symphonic bands. This year's competition has been well received with a high number of participating teams from schools within the territory.

Forty-six orchestras will take part in the Symphony Orchestra Contest, to be held in five sessions at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall on November 15 and 16.

There will be 47 teams in the String Orchestra Contest, to be held at the Concert Hall of Hong Kong City Hall on November 26 and 27 in four sessions.

Sixty-seven orchestras will take part in the Chinese Orchestra Contest, to be held in five classes at the Auditorium of Tuen Mun Town Hall from November 27 to 29.

Seventy-nine bands will compete in the Symphonic Band Contest in six classes at the Arena of Queen Elizabeth Stadium from December 11 to 14. The Gold Award winners of each class will vie for Grand Champion titles in the primary and secondary school categories at the Winners' Final on December 15. Internationally acclaimed French clarinetist Julien Herve will perform with the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band in the Final.

Tickets priced at $40 for the Symphony Orchestra Contest, String Orchestra Contest and Chinese Orchestra Contest are now available at all URBTIX outlets.
