SCED kicks off visit to Cambodia, Singapore and Indonesia

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, began his five-day visit to Cambodia, Singapore and Indonesia today (October 29) to promote Hong Kong's economic and trade relations with the three countries, as well as to lobby relevant authorities for support of Hong Kong's request to join the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA).

     Mr So met with the President of the Cambodia National Chamber of Commerce, Mr Neak Oknha Kith Meng, in Phnom Penh. He is pleased to know that the chamber is keen to strengthen commercial ties with Hong Kong.

     Mr So also met with the Chairman of the Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia, Mr Van Sou Ieng, to learn about the current business environment of the country.

     In addition, Mr So paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, Mr Pan Guangxue.

     Tomorrow (October 30), Mr So will have a breakfast meeting with the China, Hong Kong & Macau Expatriate & Business Association of Cambodia. Before leaving Phnom Penh, he will have a meeting with the Senior Minister and Minister of Commerce of Cambodia, Dr Cham Prasidh.

     Mr So is scheduled to arrive in Singapore tomorrow afternoon. He will deliver a welcome speech at the Hong Kong Festival 2012: Gala Dinner in Celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore with its partners.
