The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
With effect from October 1, 2012, Legislative Council (LegCo) Members' monthly remuneration will be adjusted from $73,150 to $84,490; the annual medical allowance will be adjusted from $28,020 to $29,420; and the operating expenses reimbursements for office operation will be adjusted from not exceeding $1,719,290 per year to not exceeding $2,166,310 per year.
A LegCo Member is provided with reimbursements to cover expenses arising out of his/her LegCo duties, including employment of staff, use of consultancy service, publicity items, entertainment and travelling, activities and office accommodation expenses etc.
LegCo Members' remuneration, medical allowance and ceilings for reimbursement of operating expenses, are subject to annual adjustment in October in accordance with the movement of Consumer Price Index (C). Members' reimbursement claims are subject to compliance audit annually. Members are required to provide assistance when field audits are carried out, such as provision of records, explanations and justifications. Records should be kept for at least two years.
