Problem addresses delay delivery
********************************

Hongkong Post handles 3.6 million pieces of mail every day. While most of them are quickly and efficiently delivered to their intended recipients, a small fraction of them - about 5,000 - are not. Either the address is incomplete, incorrect or incomprehensible, or the packaging is faulty.

Hongkong Post staff have seen many examples of "creative" addresses. Some senders make up their own street names. Apliu Street is well known for having rows of electronic parts stores, so it has been called "Electronic Parts Street" in a mailing address. Postal staff must don a detective's cap when dealing with mail with incomprehensible addresses.

A video and feature story showing how Hongkong Post staff handle such mail has been posted on news.gov.hk today (October 21).
