Man, woman and company fined for illegal club operations
********************************************************

A man, a woman and a company were fined $4,500 and $5,300 and $3,500 respectively at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (October 17) for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The courts heard that the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of Home Affairs Department conducted inspections on three clubs operating with certificates of compliance (CoCs) on Minden Avenue and Ashley Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, in March this year.

In the first case, OLA officers found that the actual layout of the club had deviated from the registered drawings and the exit route in the club was blocked. Conditions 3 and 9 of the CoC were breached.

In the second case, OLA officers found that the actual layout of the club had deviated from the registered drawings and the emergency lighting was out of order. The club staff also failed to show the membership registers upon OLA officers' request. Conditions 3, 11 and 20 of the CoC were breached.

In the third case, OLA officers found that the actual layout of the club had deviated from the registered drawings. Condition 3 of the CoC was breached.

The CoC holders were charged with contravening section 21(2) of the ordinance.

A spokesman for the department reminded all CoC holders to comply with the conditions as stipulated therein. Enforcement action will continue to be taken against illegal club operations.
