FS attends IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Tokyo (with photos)

     The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, attended the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group as a member of the Chinese delegation in Tokyo this morning (October 12).

     Issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, international financial stability, poverty eradication, economic development and aid effectiveness, were discussed at the meeting. This was followed by a lunch with the Director of the IMF Asia and Pacific Department, Mr Anoop Singh, and the Deputy Director, Mr Markus Rodlauer.

     A number of meetings were lined up for the Financial Secretary in the afternoon. Mr Tsang held separate meetings with credit rating agencies Moody's and Standard & Poor's. He also had a meeting with the Managing Partner of Brown Brothers Harriman, Mr Douglas Donahue. Mr Tsang shared with them the financial situation and economic outlook of Hong Kong. They also exchanged views on global macroeconomic risks.

     At a meeting with the President of the European Central Bank (ECB), Mr Mario Draghi, both sides discussed the current sovereign debt crisis of Europe and the mitigation measures of the ECB and member states.

     Tomorrow, Mr Tsang will meet with the Chairman of the US Federal Reserve Board, Dr Ben Bernanke, senior representatives of multinational banks and Hong Kong people living in Japan before concluding his three-day visit to Tokyo.
