The music lectures by Chow Fan-fu, a renowned music critic in the Mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau, have been well received over the past few years. In his upcoming music appreciation series, Chow is going to introduce slow music. Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), "Music Appreciation Series - Lento, Largo and Grave - The Timelessness of Slow Music" will run from October until January next year.
Music lovers may understand that it is often more difficult to play or sing a slow piece than it is to perform a fast one. A tune that lingers on in our mind and does not go away is invariably a work with a slow tempo. In this lecture series, Chow will share 10 well-known pieces, including adaptations from songs and the slow movements from sonatas, suites, chamber works, concertos, symphonies and more. Chow will introduce the characteristics and charm of each piece to the participants. In addition to enjoying the positive energy from the pieces, the participants will be able to relax and take a break from a society that pushes for speed and efficiency.
Chow Fan-fu has been hosting a variety of classical music and cultural programmes on RTHK Radio 4 since 1982. He also frequently gives talks on music and culture at tertiary institutions. He has been the host of a highly popular music lecture series under the auspices of the LCSD since 2007. In recognition of his long-term contribution to the promotion of classical music and art appreciation, Chow was awarded the Medal of Honour by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

All lectures, conducted in Cantonese, will be held at 7.30pm at the Lecture Hall, Hong Kong Space Museum.
