The Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office (HKETCO) will support fully and work in accordance with the directions agreed by the Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Co-operation and Promotion Council (ECCPC) and the Taiwan-Hong Kong Economic and Cultural Co-operation Council (THEC) in the areas of co-operation between both places.
The HKETCO will also continue to play a proactive role in local liaison to enhance Hong Kong-Taiwan exchanges in economic, trade, cultural and tourism areas and other aspects, the HKETCO Director, Mr John Leung, said today (September 25).
The ECCPC and the THEC held their third joint meeting in Taipei today, and reviewed the progress and achievements made in various co-operation areas in the past year. Both sides agreed to take forward four areas of co-operation, namely environmental protection, heritage conservation, co-operation on the testing and certification industries and notification of unsafe consumer goods, as well as exchanges between the investment promotion agencies of the two places.
"The HKETCO commenced operation in Taipei in December last year and was officially opened in May this year. The establishment of the Office is indeed an important achievement of the ECCPC-THEC co-operation platform.
"The HKETCO will adhere to the directions for future co-operation agreed by the ECCPC and the THEC, and promote Hong Kong-Taiwan exchanges on various aspects and at different levels, with a view to achieving a win-win situation for both places," Mr Leung said.
He added that since it started operation, the HKETCO has been actively connecting with different sectors of the Taiwan community and rendering all possible assistance to Hong Kong residents in Taiwan when necessary.
"We will continue to deepen our relations with various sectors in Taiwan to promote further the multifaceted co-operation between Hong Kong and Taiwan."
